Vin Diesel is getting people hyped for Fast and Furious 9 by sharing a picture of himself with the film's director and writers. The Fast and Furious franchise started in 2001 with Rob Cohen's The Fast and the Furious, and 18 years later, the series is still going strong. Fast and Furious 9 will be a follow-up to the 2017 film The Fate of the Furious, before the franchise ends with Fast and Furious 10.
Given the fact that Fast and Furious 9 was pushed back to 2020, there isn't a whole lot known about the sequel at this point. While Justin Lin is returning to direct, there is essentially nothing known about the plot of the film. That being said, there have been some casting announcements. Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson will return to the characters of Letty and Roman, and Jordana Brewster will also reprise her role of Mia Toretto. John Cena was also added to the cast at the end of last month in an undisclosed role. Diesel will also of course return for the sequel, but for now, the actor is just starting to promote the film on social media.
Posting on his Instagram account, Diesel shared an image of himself meeting with Lin as well as the writers of the film; Daniel Casey and Chris Morgan. Diesel's post doesn't really give away anything about the film, but the post does seem to support that the movie is still in pre-production at this point. Fast and Furious 9 was originally supposed to start filming last month, but Diesel will likely give fans another update when the film has officially begun production. Diesel's full post can be seen below.
While fans have to wait until 2020 for Fast and Furious 9, they will still get a Fast and Furious movie this year when the franchise expands for its first spinoff called Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. This film will see Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's characters teaming up to take down a genetically enhanced villain named Brixton (Idris Elba). While Johnson will star in this year's Fast and Furious spinoff, the Rock won't appear in Fast and Furious 9, likely due to his ongoing feud with Diesel.
People will no doubt speed to the theaters to see Hobbs & Shaw this year, but many fans are likely looking forward to the next entry of the main series. Many fans have become invested in the core characters of the main series over the years, but many people will also be excited to see Diesel back together with Lin, who directed the third through the sixth entries of the franchise. Diesel is always good with keeping his fans in the loop on the development of his films, so fans can expect to hear another update on Fast and Furious 9 when the project enters production.
