Domestic abuser got smashed on his way to court, swore at judge and stripped in the dock

A man who was due to be sentenced for beating up his partner has had his sentencing delayed because he was so drunk he could not even sit down.

Darren Taylor, 48, stopped at a pub on his way to Guildford Crown Court, Surrey, before arriving at court where he stripped completely naked.

Problems were first noticed yesterday when he arrived in the dock and failed to answer his own name.

When he went to sit down he was so inebriated he fell off his chair.

As he lay on the floor he continued swearing and had to be helped up again by security officers.

But then he became more belligerent, squaring up to them before he turned on the judge, swearing at him and ranting at his victim who was in the public gallery.

When more security teams were called in, Taylor started to undress, removing his tie and jacket then throwing them at his victim.

He tore off his shirt, and as he thrashed around he told dock officers that he was a former Royal Marine and somehow managed to remove his trousers and underwear.

Taylor continued to swear at his victim throughout the ordeal before security guards could eventually drag him off to the cells.

Judge Anne Studd QC said he was in no fit state to be sentenced so will face the court again on June 13.

There will be no more pub visits for him until then – he was remanded in custody.
