Aston Martin Vantage AMR Gets a Third Pedal
Aston Martin Vantage finally adds a third pedal for its limited-edition Vantage AMR. The new seven-speed manual transmission AMR was launched at the World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
It is limited to 200 examples and available in five designer variants for $179,995. The marque says 141 of those 200 will be available in either Sabiro Blue, Onyx Black, China Gray, or White Stone. If you want something even more exclusive, the final 59 will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin’s 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with DBR1. It is named “Vantage 59” and sports a Stirling Green and Lime paint. Inside gets Dark Knight leather and Alcantara interior that is finished with a signature AMR lime stripe and stitching for $204,995.
All Vantage AMRs pack a Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that delivers 503 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Aston Martin touts a zero-to-60 mph time in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph. The V-8 is paired with a motorsport-inspired seven-speed manual transmission.
The manual box was developed by Graziano and features a ‘dog-leg’ first gear with second to seventh gears positioned in a double H-pattern layout. There’s a hand-stitched leather-wrapped shifter and the transmission is mated to a limited-slip differential. The Vantage AMR’s transmission also includes an AMSHIFT system which is driver selectable, uses clutch, gear position, prop shaft sensors, and a tuned engine management program to mimic heel-and-toe downshifts.
Losing the automatic transmission and adding carbon ceramic brakes helps shed 209 pounds of weight over a standard Vantage. The Vantage AMR is on sale now and deliveries are expected to begin in the late fall. After the limited edition sells out, Aston Martin says it will continue to feature a manual gearbox as an option in 2020.
