Earlier today at the Korakuen Hall fight fans saw a bloody and action packed bout between the hard hittingMasamichi Yabuki (9-3, 9) [佐藤政道] took on the skilled Ryuto Oho (12-5-1, 4) [大保龍斗].
The bout had originally been scheduled March 21st but was delayed due to Oho suffering an injury in early March. With the injury healed he came into today's bout today full of hunger and started will. He put Yabuki under pressure in the opening round and forced the hard hard hitter to back up during the early stages of the bout.
Yabuki seemed to realise that Oho would be happy to bring pressure, and although Yabuki was forced to box on the back foot he did look relaxed picking his moments, working with his back near the ropes and catching Oho coming in.
The dynamic made for interesting clash in the early going. Would Oho get to his man and get to work on the inside, or would Yabuki have the steam in his legs to neutralise Oho and break him up with his own power.
By round 3 it seemed like Yabuki's power was taking a toll on Oho, who was starting to slow a touch, and his face was reddening. He continued pressing the fight, but was taking more than he was dishing out. The following round Oho would have a cut open over his left eye eye lid, and it was a bad one. His bravery showed through as he continued to press, but took risks in the process and took more shots as a result. Those shots further worsened his cut, which had began to cover half of his face in claret, and by the time the round ended and he had got to his corner it was clear that he had a huge target on his face.
The blood seemed to drive on Oho who put a lot into round 5, though didn't have a huge amount of success given his effort. In round 6 oho would manage to leave Yabuki with a cut over his left eye, but his own cut was worsening and a doctor's inspection a little over a minute into the round saw the fight being stopped, despite Oho clearly wanting to carry on. To be far to the doctors however this was a pretty bad cut right on the eye lid, a real nasty one.
Notably the ending here served Yabuki well, with the winner admitting on social media that he had badly damaged his right hand. He posted a picture of his hand and it really was a swollen mess, which will keep him away from the ring for some time, whether it's broken or not.
For Oho this is another loss, and one that will stall any chance he has to get a Japanese title fight, but there's no doubting his heart and fighting spirit and he will have made more fans despite the loss, due to his effort and fingers crossed the cut heals quickly and he's back in the ring sooner rather than later.
