In a trajectory apart from autocratic trends in Africa, the new Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is lifting restrictions on the media and freeing detained bloggers and journalists. Websites and TV stations that had been blocked are coming back. Voice of America’s Africa director, Negussie Mengesha, was able to return to his home country for the first time in four decades. He shares his story of meeting Abiy as part of a personal journey of press freedom.
