Uncertainty as Bauchi government makes new move over N30,000 minimum wage

- The governor warns civil servants in the state against sycophancy as he urges them to support the government

Govovernor Muhammed Abubakar of Bauchi state said on Wednesday, May 1, that his government will set up a committee for the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for its workers.

The job of the committee, he said, is to work out the implementation of the minimum wage recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar, who was represented by the acting head of service in Bauchi, Alhaji Adamu Gakaru, said this as part of his speech at the Workers’ Day celebration in the state.

The governor urged workers in the state to discharge their responsibilities in line with the rules and regulations governing the service.

He also called on them to sustain the industrial harmony that had existed between the government and labour towards achieving development.

Abubakar urged the workers to support the government in its fight against corruption and other vices that were bedevilling the state just as he warned against sycophancy and other vices being experienced in some government establishment.

Mohammed Usman, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, earlier commended the government for regular payment of salaries to its workers.

Usman urged that the tempo be sustained to enable workers enjoy.

He also appealed to the state government to resuscitate the leave and transport grants to its workers that were suspended due some reasons.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Oyo state government met with representatives of labour unions on the implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage in the state.

The meeting, which held at the state secretariat in Ibadan, had in attendance representatives of the state government, Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
