BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Janeek Brown was named the Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Week following the National Relay Championships this past weekend at John McDonnell Field.
Brown registered a world-leading time of 12.57 (+1.6) in the 100-meter hurdles that broke the old facility record of 12.84 set by Baylor’s Tiffani McReynolds in 2014. It also lowered the Arkansas program record in the 100-meter hurdles from 12.80 that was set last year by Brown at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Brown returned to the track about an hour later and posted the fastest time in the SEC this season with an impressive 22.67 in the 200m that is No. 3 on the Arkansas All-time list.
The 100-meter hurdle/200-meter double was the second-fastest in the history of the sport trailing only Jackie Joyner-Kersee double from the 1988 outdoor season – a year she was a two-time gold medalist at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea.
