At least two people were killed and four injured in a shooting Tuesday night at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
As soon as there were reports of shots fired, the campus went on lockdown, with students receiving alerts that there was an active shooter. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that one suspect is in custody, and the campus is now secure.
Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency tweeted that two of the people wounded sustained life-threatening injuries. No information has been released on the victims. "It breaks my heart," UNCC Prof. Susan Harden told The Associated Press. "We're torn up about what's happened. Students should be able to learn in peace and in safety and professors ought to be able to do their jobs in safety."
