SURANNE Jones hired a sex guru to prepare for filming raunchy lesbian love scenes in Gentleman Jack.
The former Coronation Street actress plays the lead role of Anne Lister in the period drama.
Show writer Sally Wainwright hired intimacy co-ordinator Ita O’Brien to give Suranne advice on how get the scenes right as she was anxious about them.
She said: “I was quite nervous about the sex scenes we had to do, because I thought they should be approached as sensitively as they could be.
“One of the great things she brought was an articulacy – we could talk about the scenes.
“She just started talking about body parts and positions in a matter of fact way, which just liberated us all.
“As well as helping us sculpt the sex scenes, the positions, she’s also there to provide support to the artists.”
Speaking at a screening of the eight-part series in the US , Suranne added about Ita: “We all discussed the different kind of relationships she had.
“It’s about a loving relationship that develops between the two of them.
“That’s how to tell a story rather than titillation.”
Gentleman Jack is set in 1832 and based on a real-life story.
In the series, Anne is a wealthy landowner and industrialist who returns to Shibden Hall in West Yorkshire after an extensive period of travelling.
Upon her return, she’s determined to transform her faded ancestral home – as well as find herself a wife.
The show premiered in the US earlier this month and one scene saw Anne can romping with her married aristocrat lover, Marianna Lawton, played by Lydia Leonard.
The clip shows the two women tangled up in their bedsheets together as they enjoy the passionate encounter.
