[Softball] Softball Falcons Kick Off KCAC Tournament Wednesday
Great Bend, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons have earned the third seed and will face sixth seeded Bethany College in their first game of the KCAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday (May 1) at the Great Bend Sports Complex in Great Bend, Kan.
"We plan to go to work and prepare for a great tournament this week. This team can do great things, I just know it," Friends head coach Suzanne Unruh said.
The Falcons enter the tournament on quite a roll, winners of four straight games and 14 of 17 overall to jump to a 24-17 overall record and a 17-7 conference mark.
In the regular season, the Falcons and Swedes split the two games in Lindsborg, Kan. Friends took the opening game 3-1 before Bethany won the second tilt 5-4.
Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) has anchored the Falcon pitching staff this season, posting a KCAC-tying 15 victories on the season while ranking third in the KCAC in strikeouts per game (6.90) and sixth in ERA (2.64). She has been particularly hot in the month of April, going 10-1 with 66 strikeouts and a miniscule 0.83 ERA.
Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) is one of three Falcon hitters batting over .400 with a .429 batting average along with a team-high 31 RBIs. Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) is hitting .415 with 30 RBIs and Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ) is batting a robust .404 on the season.
Mackenzie Nichols (SR/Columbus, Ohio) has slugged a team-best seven homers and is batting .375, with Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) recording a .344 batting average along with swiping a team-high 20 bases.
With a win over Bethany Wednesday, the Falcons would move on to face the winner of second-seeded McPherson College and seventh-seeded Kansas Wesleyan University on Thursday (May 2) at 11 am.
