NBA report says Steph Curry should have fouled out of Game 1 twice

The NBA’s Last 2 Minute report from the Warriors’ Game 1 victory over the Rockets shows that Golden State benefitted from missed calls. But those errors aren’t the same ones the Rockets complained about Sunday afternoon.

The report, which the league releases after every game assessing the officials’ performance, states that the referees missed two foul calls on Steph Curry, who finished the game with five fouls.

With 1:10 left in the game, Curry slid laterally into James Harden’s path, forcing the Rockets guard out of bounds. The report says that should have been Curry’s sixth foul, meaning he wouldn’t have been on the floor to make his dagger 3-pointer over Rockets center Nene with 25 seconds left.

Curry, who is no stranger to foul trouble in this postseason, also fouled Eric Gordon with five seconds left, the report says, but the officials did not call it.

Harden, Chris Paul and Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said Sunday afternoon that the officials continually missed calls as Warriors defenders slid under Houston jump-shooters, leaving them no place to land.

While most of those shots occurred outside the time-scope of the report, Draymond Green’s contest of Harden’s shot with 10 seconds left was judged legal because Harden extended his legs to create the contact with Green.

For their part, the Warriors have defended their closeouts of Rockets jump-shooters, arguing that like in the Green example, Harden tends to seek contact unnecessarily while he is shooting.
