Cody Morris nearly perfect in his professional debut with Lake County, errors plague Lynchburg in tough loss

Sam Hentges finally got his walks under control, but it came at the expense of becoming significantly more hittable. The southpaw prospect gave up five runs (four earned) in 5.2 innings on 10 hits while striking out five and walking two.
Akron failed to must much offense with four total hits, although Jorma Rodriguez had two of them. Alexis Pantoja went 1-3 with a double. in the loss.
Lynchburg Hillcats 4, Wilmington Blue Rocks 6

Lynchburg outhit Wilmington 11 to nine, but a two out fielding error by Nolan Jones with the bases loaded in the third inning eventually allowed four unearned runs to score for the Blue Rocks.
All five runs starting pitcher Adam Scott allowed were unearned, as he struck out six, walked two and gave up five hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Offensively, eight of the Lynchburg players collected hits in the game. Steven Kwan paved the way by going 2-4 with a triple and a walk. Luke Wakamatsu went 2-4 with a double and Oscar Gonzalez also went 2-4 at the plate.
Converted utility man Anthony Gose made his pitching debut for the Indians minor league system, tossing 2.0 innings out of the pen. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out two and walking one. It was reported he was sitting in the mid-90s with his velocity.
Lake County Captains 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 2

Down 2-0, Lake County scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead and defeat West Michigan.
Conor Smith, Jesse Berardi and Angel Lopez opened the top of the ninth with singles. Lopez’s single scored Smith to put the Captains on the board. Hosea Nelson hit an RBI groundout and after Quentin Holmes fouled out, Will Benson came up huge with a go-ahead RBI double.
Lopez went 2-3 with a double and a walk, Benson was 1-4 with a double and a walk and Holmes walked twice and stole a base.
Starting pitcher Raymond Burgos was solid, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one in 5.0 innings, but the pitching story of the game was the professional debut of Cody Morris, the Indians seventh round selection in 2018, who did not play with the Indians last season after being drafted.
In his pro debut, Morris tossed 4.0 shutout innings of relief without allowing a walk or a hit and striking out five. The lone blemish on his statline was a hit by pitch. It’s very interesting to see the Indians use Morris at full season Lake County for his professional debut and he instantly has become a pitcher to keep an eye on moving forward.
Triple-A Columbus was postponed due to rain. The Clippers will play a make-up doubleheader today.
