Aguero joins Henry as only striker to score 20-plus goals in five straight Prem seasons
MANCHESTER CITY took a big step towards the Premier League title with a narrow win at Burnley on Sunday, delivering a prestigious record for Sergio Aguero.
An untypical scrappy finish, the Argentine dug the ball out when under pressure in the area to poke home – in spite of an attempted goalline clearance by Matt Lowton.
It ticked Aguero onto 20 Premier League goals for the season, for the fifth year running.
And it set City on their way to a fourth title in the time the striker has been on their books, back a point ahead of Liverpool with two games to go.
Aguero first hit 20-plus goals in a season in 2011/12, memorably winning the title with almost the last kick of the season.
However, he couldn’t match that tally for the next couple of years and this current run began in 2014/15.
Only Thierry Henry can lay claim to the same scoring feat, between 2001/02 and 2005/06 while leading the line for Arsenal.
Harry Kane would surely be on the same level as Henry and Aguero, but for his troublesome ankle problems that will almost certainly rule him out for the season.
