PennDOT Issues Update on I-99 Improvement Project
STATE COLLEGE – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an update on its Interstate 99 improvement project in Centre County.
No work is scheduled on I-99 northbound this week. The left (passing) lane of I-99 southbound will be closed beginning at the Grays Woods/Waddle interchange and ending at the exit for Route 322 westbound near Port Matilda.
These are short term lane closures that will only be in place while crews are working. Work is expected to start at 6 a.m. and end by 3 p.m. daily.
Motorists are asked to use both lanes to the merge points throughout the work zone. This will minimize traffic backlogs and travel delays in the work zone.
The work zone encompasses a 13-mile stretch of I-99 in Taylor, Worth, Huston, and Patton townships from mile marker 56 at the Blair/Centre County line to mile marker 69 near State College.
The work zone will include the high-speed interchange of I-99 and Route 322 near Port Matilda, the Grays Woods interchange near State College and the Atherton Street interchange near State College.
Swank Construction Company of New Kensington, Pa., is the contractor for this $1.9 million project, which is expected to be complete by the end of June. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
