London Marathon trackers – how to follow your friends and family along the route
Nerves will be high for those running today’s London Marathon, and thankfully the weather is set to be alright.
That’s also great news for the friends and families of the runners, who will likely be lining up along the route to cheer them on.
Wherever you choose to stand for the best view, it’s good to know when your runner will be heading to where you are.
In the past, this may have been a little tricky, and essentially just involved standing in your spot until you hopefully caught their eye.
Nowadays, technology has us covered.
Track your runner
Virgin Money have a handy live tracking page on the web, which you can see from 7am today.
You can search by surname or running number and follow as they make their way around the course.
The Virgin Money London Marathon app is even better still, as you can track an unlimited number of friends and family. It’s available on both Android and iOS.
It’s wroth noting however, that with both of these methods, you will get updates every five miles rather than on a rolling basis.
If you’d rather see your runner in real time, you could ask for their permission to sign into their phone tracker (if they’re carrying one) such as ‘Find My iPhone’.
Alternatively, some running apps like Garmin Fit and RunKeeper have paid services which will let you see your runner’s progress as they go. With these, there have been warnings that they may crash due to the number of people using them in the vicinity, but they could be worth a go.
