Munguia-Hogan had no post-fight testing; WBO to review scoring
Munguia took a highly disputed decision in Monterrey
Dennis Hogan and his team have filed a protest after his controversial loss to Jaime Munguia last Sunday, alleging a wide variety of issues that range from moderately unprofessional to head-scratchingly inappropriate.
To summarize:
- The Monterrey commission failed to perform a post-fight drug test.
- Hogan’s cornermen were not provided chairs or stools.
- Said cornermen were also not allowed full use of the ring apron.
Hogan (28-2-1, 7 KO) also alleges that Munguia’s (33-0, 26 KO) promoter, Fernando Beltran, was “standing right behind a WBO supervisor during the fight and communicating with the corner.” Kevin Iole has some footage.

Personally, I think it’s definitely suspicious, but not definitive enough to be actionable.
WBO president Paco Valcárcel came to Munguia’s defense on the drug testing, stating that they “have to presume the guy [Munguia] was clean. He has no history of any issues.” The sanctioning body is, however, assembling an “independent panel of judges” to review the scoring.
I can remember the literal only time something like that actually produced results, and that was when the judges who robbed Erislandy Lara against Paul Williams were officially reprimanded. Meanwhile in the present, Adalaide Byrd was reportedly in the NSAC pool to judge Canelo vs. Jacobs.
