Denny Emerson’s comment
Each person will have an idealized picture of the “perfect Morgan,” and this Jeanne Mellin print is not far from what I tried to envision as I compared this to the photos that were presented.
Another thing to understand is that my personal perspective is “swayed” by my long career in both eventing and various forms of distance riding, and, because of that, my “eye” is a little averse to too much weight on what might, under that layer, be an athletic looking horse.
I found that quite a few photos depicted quite heavy horses, and I have a hard time equating useful riding and driving qualities with what I think of as overly massive bodies and necks.
I am not a person who thinks that an ideal Morgan is a sort of miniature draft horse, and I do think that some breeders, who may not also be riders, may tend toward that perspective.
And, of course, a photo is far from seeing the living, moving horse. If I were to think of a way to improve this presentation, perhaps a short (15 second? 20 second?) video clip of the horse trotting and cantering?
But in general, a very nice group, and a lot of athletic Morgans, which, after all is said, is the main objective in breeding.
Denny
