Driver kills pedestrian before leaping out and threatening villagers with a machete
A DRIVER killed a pedestrian on Good Friday before leaping from his car and threatening residents in a village with a machete.
Locals said the man banged on doors and, it is claimed, threatened to “drag people out and kill them” as terrified pensioners cowered in their homes.
Police arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene.
An air ambulance attended and paramedics treated the male pedestrian but he was later pronounced dead.
The driver first crashed into a house in the village of Skegby, near Mansfield, Notts, shortly after 9am.
He then drove three miles to the village of Mansfield Woodhouse where he reportedly crashed into several parked cars before mowing down the pedestrian.
Shocked residents said the motorist “ran around with a machete” as the man lay dying in the road.
One said: “This bloke was banging on doors threatening people.
“He was saying he was going to drag them out and kill them.
“Many of the properties are bungalows and are occupied by old folk.
“They were terrified.”
An 80-year-old pensioner added: “I have lived here all my life and never known anything like it.” Locals said the arrested man was armed with a knife or machete.
Another added: “The car was banging into vehicles along the road one after another.”

Police said the 38-year-old suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A police spokesperson said: “Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a 38-year old man following a series of incidents this morning, including a collision with a pedestrian, following which a man has died.
“Police cordons and road closures remain in place while detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents.”
