Crawford, Khan appear on First Take
Terence Crawford and Amir Khan talk to the ESPN crew about their fight on Saturday.
As welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford and Amir Khan make their final promotional push ahead of Saturday night’s fight, the two sat down with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman to discuss their thoughts on the fight.
In particular, Khan mentions during the interview that he’s fully confident heading into this fight and that he turned down more money for a fight against Kell Brook because he thought this was a winnable fight that could cement his legacy.
“I’ve been in the game a long time and I think sometimes people forget that there’s only a year difference in age. I’ve won the world titles before and this is just another time I’m gonna come in and win a another world title on Saturday. And I’m just gonna have to come in and prove everyone wrong.
“I’ve been looked at at the guy who’s just gonna be a number. I’m not just a number in this fight. I’m coming to win this fight and I’ve trained out of my skin for this. If I knew I could not win this fight I would never have taken it. I had more money on the table in the U.K. [for] a Kell Brook fight, which was an easier fight. I picked this fight.
“I picked Terence because I believe there’s a lot more to gain. He’s a great opponent, a great fighter, he’s a great champion. So to beat someone like him would take me onto a better status.”
