Track and field

Los Gatos High’s Joey Monti won two individual track events with excellent marks at the Central Coast Section Top 8 Meet last Saturday at Los Gatos.

Monti, a senior, won the boys 400 meters in a time of 48.90 seconds. He was also first in the 300 intermediate hurdles (38.11).

In addition, teammate Masaki Wada-Law won the boys 110 high hurdles (14.36) and was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles (38.40). Los Gatos’ Oliver Aristil was first in the boys high jump (6 foot, 5 inches) and the Wildcats’ Max Gurevitz was second in the shot put (51-7). Los Gatos also won the boys 1,600 relay in 3:20.42.

Westmont’s Garrett MacQuiddy was first in the boys 1,600 (4:16.61).

In the girls competition, Westmont’s Jessica Swalve won the 100 intermediate hurdles (14.68) and placed second in the 200 (25.17 wind-aided). Los Gatos’ Annika Paylor won the 3,200 (11:01.40) and teammate Abby Monti was second in the 400 (58.21).

Softball

After a 9-3 loss to host Watsonville, the Los Gatos High team won its final two Watsonville Tournament games with a jaw-dropping total of 29 runs.

First, the Wildcats beat Cupertino 19-1 in a four-inning game. Addie Payne, a freshman, slammed a home run and was 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Rosie Gomez led the Wildcats in hits (three) and runs-batted-in (five).

Then Los Gatos’ Mira Sharma and Lynsey Chiala combined for a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Scotts Valley. Sharma also had a triple and three RBI, and Payne had a triple and two RBI. Alaana Panu had three hits and scored three runs. Seraphina Vossen, Rachel An and Gomez added two hits apiece.

Los Gatos entered this week with a 13-3 overall record and 5-1 mark in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division.

Road race

The Rotary Club of Los Gatos Great Race will be held on April 28. The four-mile course starts at 8:30 a.m. in Saratoga and ends in Los Gatos. The entry fee is $50 per person with a $5 discount for children 12 and under. Online registration is at lggreatrace.com until April 26, or register in person at Athletic Performance in Los Gatos.

Training program

USA FIT San Jose is now open for registration. It is designed for runners and walkers with the goal of completing the Rock ‘n Roll San Jose Half Marathon on October 6 and Zombie Runner Halloween Marathon on November 2.
