Domestic abuse victim ‘regularly battered by ex’ claims cops asked her to pick up thug from cells

A DOMESTIC abuse victim claims cops asked her to pick up her alleged attacker from the cells following his arrest.

Paula McNeill, 40, accused David Kerr, 35, of slamming her head off a car steering wheel before smashing up a hotel room.

But when he was arrested on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, Paula claims cops put her back into harm’s way by ordering her to pick him up from the cells to get him “off the Island”.

When she eventually arrived, officers stood and watched as he gave her a cuddle and she handed him her bank card.

And a furious Paula has told how she felt “abandoned” despite being surrounded by police.

Speaking to Daily Record, Paula said: “There was clearly a lack of understanding from police of how women react when they are in an abusive relationship.

‘I FELT ABANDONED’

“They basically sent me back to him, to assault me again. I am complaining because I don’t want that happening to other women.

“That’s how women end up being killed.

““It was appalling that they let him near me, even if I had denied that he had hit me.

“I felt abandoned.”

On the violent attack, Paula told how she could taste blood and felt it running down her face.

When the couple entered the hotel, David’s alleged brutality continued inside their room before a member of staff walked in and saw him towering over twisting her arm.

Paula added: ”David is a dangerous man but his violence has not been taken seriously. Will someone have to die before something is done about him?”

Kerr was released but assaulted Paula again before he was charged with violent offences.

He pled guilty to offences in Paisley where he pushed her head, twisted her arm and prevented her from leaving home.

But the court accepted not guilty pleas on all charges relating to the alleged assaults and criminal damage in Mull.

Vicious Kerr was slapped with a community payback order, 275 hours of unpaid community work and ordered to attend alcohol counselling.

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
