Michelle Obama compares Donald Trump to 'divorced dad' in series of jibes

Former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has in a series of scathing remarks compared the US president Donald Trump to a “divorced dad”.

According to The Independent UK, Ms Obama juxtaposed the Donald Trump administration to Barack Obama’s presidency in an interview on Sunday, April 14, to promote her autobiography Becoming in London.

The newspaper reports that Ms Obama condemned Trump’s decision to radically overhaul her husband’s legacy but did not specifically mention the president by his name.

Legit.ng gathers that Ms Obama who was interviewed by US late-night host Stephen Colbert, also jokingly compared the US with President Trump in the White House to being a teenager.

“We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled,” Ms Obama said. “Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”

Ms Obama added she did not hesitate to discuss President Trump in her book which has sold more than 10 million copies and may become the most popular memoir in history.

She also stated that she struggled to watch the news at the moment.

“When I am not emotionally able to deal with it I turn it off for a moment,” she said. “I only let some of that stuff into my world when I’m ready. You can’t have a steady diet of fear and frustration coming in.”

The former first lady, however, expressed optimism that the US will come out the 'dark chapter' experienced under President Trump better and stronger.

She said: “This may feel like a dark chapter but any story has its highs and lows but it continues. Yes, we are in a low but we have been lower. We have had tougher times, we have had more to fear. We have lived through slavery, the Holocaust and segregation.

“We have always come out at the other end – better and stronger. We are moving in a direction of diversity and inclusion. No-one ever said it would be easy. We are just in the throes of the uneasy path of change.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a US lawmaker, Ilhan Omar, described President Trump's tweets as a "violent rhetoric" capable of increasing death threat to her life.

Omar who is one of the first two Muslim members of the US Congress made this declaration in a response to President Trump's tantrum after speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, announced a new "security assessment to safeguard" the lawmaker.

The US Muslim lawmaker also accused Trump of stoking right-wing extremism, a development she said was not presidential and benefiting of commander-of-chief.
