Govt shielding corrupt, says NC leader Singh

Nepali Congress leader Prakashman Singh today accused the government of shielding corrupt people and failing to deliver good governance.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union Saptari in Rajbiraj, NC leader Singh charged that the incumbent government was providing protection to corrupt leaders and ministers. “The government is hell-bent on protecting those guilty in the wide body aircraft scam and 33 kg gold smuggling scam,” he added.

Singh argued that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s act of concentrating unlimited power had given rise to the suspicion that he was trying to impose totalitarianism in the country.

“What is the motive behind changing the provision so as to empower the prime minister to deploy the Nepali Army?” he asked.

Singh opined that increasing cases of corruption and violence had dashed peoples’ hopes that the government with twothirds majority would do exemplary work for development and prosperity.

Singh commented that the federal government’s erroneous working style had rendered province and local levels toothless.

“Harping on the popular programme of development is not enough. The government should also implement its policies and programmes,” he added. Singh reasoned that the government’s slogan of ‘Happy Nepali, Prosperous Nepal’ was just limited to paper and speeches.
