Tottenham confirm ‘significant’ injury to Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur have provided injury updates on Harry Kane and Dele Alli after the pair were forced off during the 1-0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter final first leg on Tuesday night.

Kane had slipped as he tried to block Fabian Delph’s clearance on the right touchline in the second half and was substituted immediately.

The England captain was seen leaving the stadium on crutches with a protective boot on his left ankle.

After undergoing an MRI scan earlier today, the club have confirmed that Kane has a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle.

Meanwhile Dele Alli fractured his left hand during the closing stages of the match at the new Spurs stadium.

The club are said to be exploring ways of how the midfielder can remain available for the remainder of the season which starts with the visit of already relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

A statement on the official Spurs site read: “Following assessment over the past two days, we can confirm that Harry Kane has sustained a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Champions League quarter-final, first leg win against Manchester City.

“Investigations are ongoing and he will continue to be assessed by our medical staff over the coming week.

“We can also confirm that examinations have revealed that Dele Alli fractured his left hand during Tuesday’s fixture.

“The England midfielder will now be assessed to determine his availability for this weekend’s fixture against Huddersfield Town.”
