Alligator obeys pedestrian laws by using crosswalk
Alligators in South Carolina are apparently well versed on the pedestrian laws and using crosswalks to safely cross roads, or at least they seem to be in Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet.
On Monday, Austin Bond captured video of an alligator using a crosswalk to cross a road near the park’s entrance that leads cars between a saltwater marsh and a freshwater pond.
Bond’s video showing the alligator going from left to right across the road in front of him comes less than eight months after a video was posted showing an alligator crossing in the crosswalk in the opposite direction.
“They cross at the crosswalks a few times a year because it is easier than doing the limbo [under the barrier fence],” Bond told FTW Outdoors.
“I was on a bike ride and I noticed the alligator was about to cross so I blocked traffic behind me so that he wouldn’t accidentally get run over.”

When it posted the video shot by Jimmy Card last August, the Myrtle Beach Sun News wrote, “humans who illegally cross the road should learn from this wise gator.”
Bond told FTW Outdoors that he probably sees two alligators per year cross the road, “so it is special.”
“They cross the causeway road at Huntington as they are also looking for food between the saltwater inlet—left side—and the freshwater pond—right side,” Bond told FTW Outdoors.”
As for the unusual background music on Bond’s video? He explained: “I didn’t have the sound on when I recorded the video so I just added me playing piano later.”
