Names Emirs involved in the banditry or face legal action - Zamfara council of chiefs tells defense minister

The Zamfara state council of chiefs has denied the allegation levelled against them by the minister of defence, Monsur Dan-Ali, that some of royal fathers in the state are involved in the banditry activities in the state.

Legit.ng regional reporter in Zamfara, Lawal Tsalha, reports that this was made known on Thursday, April 11, following an emergency meeting held by the council's members at the state ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs.

The spokesperson of the council, Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Muhammad Attahiru, called on the defense minister to be specific on his allegation and mention the names of the Emirs that are involved in the banditry.

They council said it was waiting for the positive response of the minister otherwise they would take appropriate action against him.

The council, however, appreciated the effort of the federal government in controlling the security situation in the state.

The council of chiefs urged the military to be careful while bombing suspected areas of hoodlums as many innocent people are being affected.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the defence minister, Mansur Dan-Ali, described kidnapping, cattle rustling and farmers and herders clashes as currently worse than the insurgency being experienced in the north east part of the country.

Dan-Ali reportedly said this at the opening ceremony of the national workshop on civil military relations and the media which held in Kaduna on Thursday, March 22.

It was reported that the minister argued that that armed conflict situations often present fertile ground for friction between the military and the media.
