MLB Opening Day playoff odds: Every team's postseason chances

All 30 MLB teams will take the field on Thursday for Opening Day across the United States, and the Houston Astros will start the season as betting favorites to win the 2019 World Series. According to playoff projections, the Astros are virtual locks to make the postseason – and the 2017 World Series champions are favored to take down AL powerhouses New York and Boston in the playoffs.

To determine which teams have the best chance of making the playoffs in 2019, we crunched the numbers from the most recent playoff projections from three major outlets – Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, and FiveThirtyEight. Each team is ranked in order of their average chance to make the playoffs this season.

We’ve also included World Series odds for the top ten teams in the league, from the Astros at No. 1 to the Brewers in tenth.

The Phillies may have been the biggest winners in the offseason, as the organization added prize free agent Bryce Harper and a handful of other All-Stars, but Philadelphia will open the season with just a 48 percent chance of making the playoffs. The race to win the NL East is wide open, with the Phillies, Braves, Mets and Nationals all expected to be in postseason contention.
