Overflow of patients in Jajarkot Hospital
JAJARKOT: Jajarkot Hospital is overflowing with patients causing them to receive treatment from the floor with lack of adequate beds.
With an increasing number of patients but only 50 beds at the hospital, patients are being treated on the floor, said Dr Mahesh Silwal. He added that the hospital is currently overflowing with patients suffering from diarrhoea, headache, among others.
Hospital Management Committee chair, Dharmasheela Basnet, blames the construction company for their extreme negligence, due to which the under-construction building at the hospital has remained incomplete for five years. This has caused problem in accomodating the increasing number of patients at the health facility.
Basnet also shared that doctors were treating two patients in one bed, and after the situation got worse, patients are now being treated on the floor.
Earlier, patients in the district had to travel to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu, among other places, for treatment. However, with health specialists providing treatment at the district hospital itself in recent days, flow of patients has increased at the health facility.
Despite the fact, due to lack of physical structure, adequate human resources, and proper equipment, the hospital is facing these problems, said civil society leader Rajendra Bikram Shah. He added that these factors led to hindrances in proper treatment of the patients.
According to hospital statistics, apart from the locals, people from Rukum (West) and some areas of neighbouring Dolpa also visit the hospital seeking treatment.
