Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been urged to retire from the Gabonese national team after his country failed to sealed a place in AFCON 2019.

The Arsenal center-forward returned to the team after missing two matches revealing he was thinking about quitting his international career.

Aubameyang started in their final group game against Burundi but missed wins against South Sudan and Mali.

But the Panthers captain failed to inspire his side to victory after being held to a 1-1 draw as Saido Berahino helped the Swallows qualify for the tournament for the first time in their history.

The 28-year-old who wore a new colour to his hair in tribute to Daniel Cousin's side, went from hero to zero in the eyes of fans just days after he was mobbed at the airport.

One tweeted: "Announce international retirement @Aubameyang7."

While another said: "How is Gabon not making it to AFCON a shock? Made it out of the group-stage once in 23 years.
