TIGER WOODS hit TWO balls into the water on Sawgrass’ treacherous 17th en route to a nightmare quadruple bogey.
Woods fell victim to golf’s most famous par-three after dumping his tee shot AND third shot into the drink surrounding the island green.
The two-time Players champion was five under par overall and just two off the lead when disaster struck during the second round.
Woods pulled his tee shot on the 146-yard hole and saw his ball take a big bounce on the green before trickling off the back into the hazard.
He then made his way to the drop zone but flew his pitch too far.
The ball took one hit on the green and flew into the water.
Former world No 1 Woods, a doubt before the tournament with a bad neck, eventually hit his fifth onto the green and two-putted for a card-wrecking seven.
It was his first quadruple bogey at the Players in 1,229 holes played at the unofficial fifth major.
Woods’ score was the same as Englishman Paul Casey, whose seven in the first round was the worst of the day.
He also hit two into the water on the do-or-die par-three in Florida, US.
