Scouted: Sperry Creates Sustainable Shoe Line Made From Yarn Spun From Recycled Plastic Bottles
A brand that is dedicated to making nautical-inspired footwear like Sperry understands the importance of saving our oceans. And with their new sustainable line, Sperry Bionic, they’re putting their money where their mission is.
The new shoes are made from BIONIC yarn (spun from plastic recovered from marine and coastal environment) and pull inspiration from the nautical and sailing roots of the brand. The designs feature multi-colored sailboat-like patterns with stitching like you’d see flapping in the wide on the open ocean. And the sustainability doesn’t stop at the shoes, either. The shoe boxes the shoes themselves come in are made from “100% recycled paper material, and only with vegetable ink and water-based glue.”
Each pair is woven from an average of five recycled plastic bottles and come in a few of Sperry’s most iconic and popular sneaker styles: the Crest Vibe, the Authentic Original Boat Shoe, the Captain’s CVO, the Captain’s Slip-On, the Crest Twin Gore, and the Striper II CVO. There are both men’s and women’s styles available, plus a couple of kids styles, as well, and they’re priced from $44.95 to $99.95.
