The Virtual Terrace • Re: Can professional RL sustain so many clubs?

Him wrote:

The “it’s ok until they run out of cash” argument could be levelled at any club in RL that doesn’t run a profit. Which narrows it down to basically Leeds and maybe Warrington and Saints. Even then most clubs who can run a profit regularly now required large amounts of owner investment for several years to get them to that point.

I don’t know what Toronto’s finances are like. I assume they’re making a loss. If, after 5 years in SL they’re still making a loss then it’s a cause for concern. After only what 3 years of existence it’s hardly a surprise they’re relying on owner support.

It’s not the clubs that are 3 years old that need owner input that’s the problem. It’s the clubs that 103 years old that need owner input that are the issue.

I know that you replied to a particular post but, this was in the context of a reply form an infamous troll to a previous post and it may be that you should read that on as well. The main point was that as long as a club can service it's debt, there is no issue and most use their wealthy benefactor(s) to do this.
What really hacks me off is the constant trolling from just a few people, who want to replace existing SL clubs with "fantasy clubs" that dont currently exist or Toulouse /Toronto/London.
Ok London are in SL for now. But for ANYONE to suggest that New York or Montreal should replace ANY current SL club is taking the mickey big time.
I may (deliberate understatement) be sensitive about Trinity but, they are one of the very, very few profitable SL clubs and it's current management have worked absolute miracles to turn the club from basket case to solid SL side in just a few years.
I know the ground is a major issue, which means Trinity receiving reduced funding but, they are working damned hard to resolve this and had Wakefield been in just about any other part of the country, the S106 planning agreement that was passed in 2010, yes 2010, would have seen a new ground built. Frustrating for all involved.

I realise that Toronto are being bank rolled in order to survive and lets just hope that their owners pockets are very deep and yes, it's fairly obvious that this would need to be the case, although there are different and far more conservative ways to chase the dream but as we all know they have tried to achieve SL by throwing as much cash as they can to achieve top flight status as quickly as possible.
