Spring Training Game Two: Reds vs. Mike Trout

New manager David Bell will take his spotless 0-0-1 managerial record in Cactus League play as the skipper of the Cincinnati Reds into Sunday’s tussle with the Los Angeles Angels, as the two clubs will go to work on baseballing at just about 3:10 PM ET. Sal Romano won’t be starting for the Reds, though, despite what certain outlets may suggest...instead, that’ll go to young Vlad Gutierrez, as Better Off Red’s Jamie Ramsey detailed in his Sunday game notes.
Peruse those, would ya? If you do, you’ll get a sweet little tidbit on when we’ll get to see Nick Senzel take CF by storm for the first time this spring. Speaking of elite-level generational talents who play CF, Mike Trout will indeed face the Reds today, leading off for them in their split-squad action.
It’s also worth noting that unlike cohort Sonny Gray, Romano wasn’t scratched from pitching today because of an injury, as the newly-slimmed Big Salad is still listed as a pitchers slated to pitch pitches today. Also of note is Lucas Sims being listed as one of those pitchy-pitchers, too, since the status of the shoulder issue that shut down his 2018 season has been a bit of a mystery to us all winter long. Hopefully, that means he’s healthy and ready to go, since he’s still a guy I think can contribute to the Cincinnati pitching staff in some form or fashion as early as this year.
