Karl Lagerfeld has died aged 85, the House of Karl Lagerfeld confirmed on Tuesday.
The creative director of Chanel died in hospital in Paris after being urgently admitted on Monday night, according to French news site Pure People.
While a cause of death is not yet known, Le Figaro reported that Lagerfeld had been "weak for many weeks." Last month, he missed two Chanel fashion shows in Paris after appearing at every one since joining the design house in 1983, according to Harper's Bazaar, a move that sparked speculation about his health.
Aside from his creative direction, Lagerfeld will be remembered for his zingy — and often controversial — one-liners.
From calling the singer Adele fat to shaming the looks of all Russian men, Lagerfeld was unapologetically a man of pure aesthetics, whether people agreed with him or not.
