President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday night, February 14, commended former president of the United States, Bill Clinton for his continuous support for Nigeria and the growth of her democracy.
Reports have claimed that the president, who took a telephone call from former president Clinton described him as a friend of the country.
President Buhari made this commendation while reacting to the US president constant support for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria under a democratic dispensation.

According to a statement issued by Femi Adesina, special assistant on media & publicity, President Buhari assured Clinton of his commitment to free, fair and credible elections in the weeks ahead.
Clinton, who regretted his inability to visit the country to witness the signing of the final peace accord before the general elections, wished Nigeria well as her citizens go to the polls.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the APC's flag bearer, President Buhari and Nigeria's former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, met in person at International Conference Center in Abuja to sign the national peace accord for the second time.
The event was attended by dignitaries like the country's former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Bishop Mathew Kukah, the secretary-general of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, among others.
In a related development, the former US president watched over a second peace pact to be signed between President Buhari and the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, February 13.
According to a statement by head of the secretariat of National Peace Committee, Atta Barkindo, secretary-general of commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Scotland, will also be present at the event.
The statement read: “The National Peace Committee, mindful of the importance of peaceful elections and non-violent transfer of power has engaged various stakeholders in preparation for the 2019 general elections.

“The NPC is grateful to Kofi Annan Foundation for supporting this process, and, after 2015, again supporting free and fair elections in Nigeria.
