‘The Conners': ABC Boss Says ‘We Are Close’ on Season 2 Renewal
ABC is close to renewing “The Conners” for a second season.
“We are close,” ABC entertainment president Karey Burke told reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour.
“The Conners” averaged just under 10 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in the advertiser-preferred adults 18 to 49 demographic, when factoring in a week of delaying viewing, according to Nielsen. The show wrapped its first season last month.

“The Conners” was created from the ashes of “Roseanne,” which was canceled after series creator Roseanne Barr sent out a tweet suggesting that former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett is a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes.” The star’s tweet caused an immediate backlash on Twitter and ultimately led to ABC’s decision to cancel.
The network ordered 10 episodes of the spin-off back in June — before adding an additional episode — starring original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, Maya Lynne Robinson and Jayden Rey, who appeared in the revival, returned for “The Conners” as well.
Earlier on Tuesday, ABC renewed “The Good Doctor,” “A Million Little Things,” “Shark Tank” and “Modern Family” for an 11th and final season. It was an eventful day for Burke, who also spoke about a possible “Lost” reboot and addressed the issues plaguing the Oscars telecast, which ABC will air this month.
