A 69-year-old FedEx worker was reportedly found dead on Thursday outside of a delivery hub in East Moline, Illnois, ABC affiliate WQAD reports.
The East Moline Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Police have reportedly said the weather contributed to the worker's death, though the cause of his death is unknown. The temperature near East Moline on Thursday averaged minus 15 degrees Fahrenheit and reached a low of minus 33 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Weather Underground.
The worker's body was reportedly found by another FedEx employee, who reported the body around 9:30 am. Authorities have reportedly not determined how long after the worker's death his body was found, though an investigation into the incident is in progress, according to WQAD.
The US is experiencing a polar vortex this week that has resulted in temperatures below minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the deaths of at least 21 people.
