JAMB, its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, on Tuesday, January 29, demande that the university should track and arrest those behind the criminal act.

Confirming the ugly development, JAMB's registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, said that evidence of the extortion was discovered at the university’s CBT centre.

The statement by the board partly read: “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to a press release by the University of Benin on the suspension of the University CBT centre on the breach of the code governing the 2019 UTME registration exercise.

“The Board, therefore, asks the university to do a thorough investigation to identify the bad eggs in the shameful episode before further development.

“An apology shall be required not only to the Board but also to the nation if, after the denial, the evidence is adduced to prove the infraction committed on the ground of a highly respected institution as the University of Benin.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that JAMB had announced that the sale of the UTME forms to candidates would begin in January 10, 2019.

Benjamin, in a statement on Thursday, December 20, said 50 centres for registration have been sanctioned for infractions. Ahead of 2019, the board said it has 718 accredited CBT centres, which would help in spreading digital literacy.
