City councilman caught on camera saying a racial slur

Achille police were called on a domestic dispute on December 29th between family members in Lynn Chambers home, and body cam footage shows Lynn Chambers saying the n-word in conversation with police.

This incident comes weeks after Chambers was arrested for meth trafficking and illegal weapons possession, at the same house.

This time, as officers were trying to figure out what the problem was, Chambers told them this about why he didn't want his step granddaughter's friends around his house:

"Their little Denison dope bunch over here. They're dope (expletive). You know who I'm talking about," said Chambers.

Police say Chambers' step granddaughter, who is half African American, told officers Chambers was calling her the n-word before law enforcement arrived.

She was not available for comment.

We called Chambers for an explanation, he says he was repeating what someone else had said.

"The racial slur wasn't racial. It was not a racial slur, it didn't come out as a racial slur. It's only a racial slur when people take it out of text that its talked about," said Chambers.

Achille superintendent Rick Beene says they teach their students using language is wrong, and hopes the community feels the same way.

"It's just something we find very unacceptable to ever deal or allow any situation to go on that involves race," said Beene.

Chambers does not deny what he said.

"I'm real sorry I said it. I'm real sorry, I wish I had never said it but you know," said Chambers.

Chambers also has a message for his constituents.

"It don't matter if you're a city councilman or not, you shouldn't use it. I shouldn't have used it. I don't think its right by using that word, but I did," said Chambers.

Chambers still remains under investigation by Achille police on 12 possible felony charges, including meth trafficking and possession of illegal weapons.{{file|t=kGBDk_1547687661}}
