- The pensioners begged the governor to end their misery and pay them

Retired civil servants in Kaduna state under a group called Compulsorily Retired Civil Servants in Southern Kaduna have appealed to Governor Nasir El-Rufai over non-payment of their retirement allowances.

The retirees said they have endured so much suffering as they await their benefits.

The group made their condition known on Wednesday, January 16, in an official statement in Zango Kataf local government area, which was signed by Mohammed Haruna, their secretary, NAN reports.

The group claimed in the statement that most of the pensioners were forcibly asked to resign, yet they were yet to get their entitlements.

The statement read: “This is the second year that over 5,000 civil servants in Southern Kaduna Senatorial zone were laid off from their jobs, apart from primary school teachers and local government staff.

“We want the public to know that the state government has not paid a kobo to the retired civil servants.

“While we remain loyal to the government, we want the governor to have the fear of God, the creator of mankind and pay us our legitimate benefits.”

The group also expressed their frustration concerning the unsuccessful meeting they have had with the state government in the past.

The retired civil servant earnestly urged the governor to see to their condition and provide a solution.
