President Muhammadu Buhari has departed for Lokoja, Kogi state, to attend the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president left the State House Helipad for Lokoja via a presidential chopper.

Legit.ng gathers that the president cancelled his scheduled trip to Ilorin, Kwara following the cancellation of the APC campaign rally in the state.

The president’s initial plan was to attend both the Ilorin and Lokoja rallies as planned by the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.

The cancellation of the Kwara rally might not be unconnected with the ban on street rallies in the state.

Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed of Kwara on Monday, January 14, banned political street rallies and processions across the state following reported attacks on citizens by political thugs.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Kwara state capital, Ilorin was on Wednesday, January 9, locked down by scores of All Progressives Congress (APC) women and youth who staged a peaceful rally in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

The rally, which was organised by Making A Different (MAD) for Kwara and Kawu Modibbo Group saw the procession affecting human and vehicular traffic on the popular Muritala Mohammed way.

The rally started around the popular Post Office Roundabout in the metropolis at 9.30 am and ended at the campaign office of a former APC governorship aspirant, Ishaq Modibbo Kawu.

Hon Bashir Bolarinwa, the state APC chairman, in his remark at the event, urged aggrieved members of the party to forget their grievances and work for the success of the party at the polls.

Bolarinwa, represented by the vice chairman of the party, Abdullahi Samari, said: “Don’t sell your permanent voters’ cards to them. Your PVC is your power. If they bring money, collect the money. After all it is our money. But don’t vote them.”

The wife of Mallam Modibbo, Saadat, speaking on behalf of the groups, said: “We are here today to mobilize youth and women in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election."
