The fugitive former left-wing militant Cesare Battisti arrived in Rome on January 14, after his arrest in Bolivia and extradition via Brazil. Battisti’s extradition came decades after his escape from an Italian prison in 1981. He was convicted in abstentia in 1990 for four murders committed during political violence that rocked Italy in the 1970s and 80s. He denies the charges. Battisti fled Brazil recently, ANSA said, after the newly elected President Jair Bolsonaro had said he’d be extradited. Credit: Polizia di Stato via Storyful
