Opposition leader Bill Shorten will join with traditional owners in the Northern Territory to outline details on his plans to rejuvenate Kakadu National Park. Both major parties have committed more than $200 million to upgrade the world heritage listed site with a strong focus on infrastructure improvement. Labor's funding includes $100 million to upgrade four key access roads, which will allow for year-round access to key tourist locations, as well as a $25 million new visitor centre in the struggling town of Jabiru. The improvements to the national park are hoped to encourage much-needed tourism in the region which has been declining following a boom in the 1980s.
