Checkout the Premier League club Abramovich wanted to buy before settling for Chelsea

- Reports claim Roman Abramovich would have acquired north London club Arsenal

- The findings of of how the billionaire was misguided was revealed in a new book

- The 52-year-old oil mogul was also keen on purchasing Premier League giants, Tottenham

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich could have acquired majority shares in Arsenal 16 years ago but he was warned off by ignorant Swiss bankers.

The Russian oligarch had tried to lure the Gunners talisman Thierry Henry to Stamford Bridge on several transfer windows but was unsuccessful.

The unbelievable revelations have been made in a new book, The Club, written by two Wall Street Journal writers.

Abramovich was incorrectly advised about Arsenal when scouting which top-flight Premier League club to purchase.

But it could have been all so different for the man whose current wealth is estimated at £9.3billion.

According to claims made by the book in 2003, Abramovich hired Swiss bank UBS to examine the economics of top-flight football in England.

And one of its findings was that “Arsenal were categorically not for sale”.

Abramovich instead took over Chelsea for £140million and went on to win five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and a Champions League trophy.

The book also claim former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein believed the club’s owners would have cashed in if Abramovich had made a reasonable offer.

But when he met with Spurs' chairman, the Russian was not impressed with the neighbourhood.

The book quotes: “While his Mercedes trundled along Tottenham High Road, he looked out and said in Russian, ‘This is worse than Omsk’ — the grim Siberian outpost where he had a refinery.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has put Chelsea up for sale with a price tag of more than £2billion, it was claimed last night.

This follows the Abramovich's oligarch’s dispute with the British government in recent months over his visa status.
