Today’s mom does not look kindly at a new vacuum cleaner or floor polisher—the kinds of Mother’s Day gifts women’s magazines suggested during the early 20th century. Today, jewelry, a day at the spa, or breakfast in bed (with Mom frequently cleaning up the kitchen and the crumbs) are the status quo.
