Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev to the post of his deputy in the Presidential Council for Science and Education. The decree about this was published on the official portal of legal information.
The council also includes Putin’s aide Andrei Fursenko and First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Yuri Averyanov.
The decree of the head of state noted that the council was created to develop the scientific and technical sphere and education, determine the priorities for the scientific development of Russia, as well as to make decisions on the development and implementation by the government of innovative projects of state importance and programs that require a separate decision by the president.
In mid-January 2020, Medvedev announced his resignation from the government. The prime minister explained his decision by his desire to give the president the opportunity to implement the proposals for reforming the political system, which Putin announced in his message to the Federal Assembly. The next day, the president signed a decree appointing Medvedev as deputy head of the Russian Security Council.
