HUNDREDS of Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank customers say they’ve been left without their wages and benefit payments today following a bank glitch.
Furious customers are taking to Twitter this afternoon to ask where their money is after an expensive Christmas period.
Outage tracker Downdetector showed almost 500 reports of an issue with Yorkshire Bank at 9am this morning.
Around 250 customers were still complaining about problems with the lender shortly before 12pm.
Meanwhile, a map on Downdetector appears to show London and Leeds as the areas worst hit, although this has yet to be confirmed by Yorkshire Bank or Clydesdale Bank.
Both Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank are part of the Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank Group (CYBG) which bought Virgin Money in 2018.
Virgin Money customers appear to be unaffected by the problem.
Taking to Twitter, one customer said: “What the hell is happening with Yorkshire Bank?
“I’ve got bills to pay today and my wages have not gone in, checked with my pay roll and it’s to do with Yorkshire Bank, it’s a joke just after Xmas when people need there hard earned cash.”
Someone else asked: “How long will this be likely to take I have two children and no wages in the bank?”
While another customer added: “Wages not in and I’m not the only one.”
This person tweeted: “My pension and pension credit haven’t gone in I have no money for heating I’m really not a happy customer.”
Someone else said: “Can’t pay my rent and no money to live off. Switching banks ASAP. Bye bye.”
Yorkshire Bank told The Sun it’s investigating the cause of the issue and said it doesn’t know how many customers are affected.
Parent company Virgin Money told us: “We are investigating the reports as a priority and will provide an update for customers as soon as possible.
“We don’t have any additional information to share at this stage.
“Thank you for your patience.”
Clydesdale Bank shared a similar response on its Twitter page.
Problems with Yorkshire Bank come just days after Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland online banking crashed on New Year’s Day.
Back in October, Barclays app and online banking locked customers out of accounts.
Then in September, NatWest customers were left locked out of their accounts after a glitch with the app meant they couldn’t log in.
