Kylie Kelce Gives a Highly Anticipated (& Super Funny!) Update on Her ‘Deadbeat’ Elf on a Shelf
Santa won’t be here for a few more weeks, but he’s already sending his scout elves to homes around the country. Her and Jason Kelce’s family Elf on the Shelf M&MY is a “deadbeat” according to her, and she just gave a funny new update on what the elf is doing now.
In a clip from the latest episode of her podcast Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce, the Kansas City Current co-owner shared, “It’s officially December, which means, our family’s deadbeat Elf on the Shelf M&MY has returned.”
“Last year, I filled you guys in on why M&MY, our elf, is a deadbeat,” Kylie, who shares daughters Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finnley, 8 months, continued. “Guys, she barely ever moves, we don’t get into the chaos that is the malarkey. All the little things that happen. She’s not doing pranks overnight. She’s not doing this, doing that. Homegirl, we’re lucky if she moves.”
How it typically goes for Kylie and Jason is they wake up with a child running into their room and realize the elf has not moved. “Jason and I look at each other, and I say, ‘the E.L.F.’ and he says, ‘Got it.’ And then he sneaks out of the room, and suddenly, M&MY’s in a new place. Wooooow! Oh my gosh! Go look for her, we don’t know where she is!” she added at the end in fake surprise and enthusiasm.
“I’ll keep you guys updated on M&MY’s goings-on. Don’t get your hopes up,” she added. “And that’s how I elf. For any real ones who haven’t started this yet, f—ing don’t.”
In the comments, people loved this low-key way to do the Elf on the Shelf. “Our elf stayed at our old house when we moved because he really wanted to welcome the new family to the neighbourhood????” one person commented.
“Our elves had too strong of magic this year so they’re stationary in snow globes till Christmas.. I am in fact winning ????????” someone else said.
“When my daughter finally understood how things ‘work’ she said… “well, now I understand why our elf is so lazy” ????????????????” another quipped. But not everyone’s so lucky to get out of it. Another mom said, “My kids are 15, 17, and 19. The day after Thanksgiving, they were like ‘where are the elves?’ ???? My daughter texted from college yesterday wanting an update on their location. I guess I’m moving these damn things until the day I die.”
Last year on her podcast, Kylie talked about their elf too. “I don’t think our chosen avenue of Elf on the Shelf will be a surprise to anyone,” she said. “We are the most low-maintenance Elf on the Shelf family you can find.”
The elf shows up on Dec. 1 and moves most nights. “That’s it,” Kylie continued. “M&MY is not leaving notes. She’s not bringing gifts. She’s not doing mischief. She’s not requiring any additional work.”
“I love the idea of drawing on their face and then leaving M&MY with a marker,” Kylie continued. “But the idea of waiting until my kids are in a deep enough sleep and then scheming to get in their room and hoping they don’t wake up, that’s just a commitment I’m not willing to make.”
The only thing that worries her? Once her daughters start comparing notes at school. “I am nervous for the time where my girls compare notes at school because I’m nervous about the families whose elves bring gifts or other treats and fun things, and then they [will] come home and ask me why M&MY is such a deadbeat elf,” she said.
To be fair, my family’s elf Jingle Bells also rarely brings treats or does pranks and just moves around different spots in our house. (It’s called Elf on a Shelf, so he sits on a shelf!) So hopefully other parents will get the memo and not go too over-the-top either.
