Trump mocked by Gavin Newsom as press office calls for Kennedy Center to be renamed
Gavin Newsom has mocked Donald Trump's appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors, joking that the building should be renamed the "Newsom Center".
It seems as though California Governor Newsom's Press Office was mocking not only Trump's appearance at the event, which honored Sylvester Stallone, KISS, and Gloriay Gaynor, but also the president's recent decision to rename the Institute of Peace. Trump renamed the building the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace, and his appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors last night appeared to be perfect material for Governor Newsom.
His press office posted to X with a post mocking Trump's appearance at the event, renaming of the Institute of Peace, and his style of writing on Truth Social. The post, which was written in capital letters and in a style all too familiar to those who keep up to date with Trump's Truth Social posts, went viral on X.
It reads, "Terrific night accepting the first-ever Kennedy Center Peace Prize!!! Audience was amazing (chairs not great, lighting disaster). Trump and janitor Ric Grenell let the whole place go to hell! I told them as Trump dozed off: rename it the Newsom Center!! Only I can fix it!!!"
"Crowd went wild - people fainting, crying, speaking in tongues!!! Even RFK JR. was so moved and inspired by me that he grabbed the tweezers and tried to take out the brain worm! A historic night for America. You're welcome!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter! - GCN."
Trump's actual appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors had him quoting movie character Rocky Balboa before taking aim at the "miserable" people in the audience.
The president said, "Some of them have had legendary setbacks, setbacks that you have to read in the papers because of their level of fame. But in the words of Rocky Balboa, they showed us that you keep moving forward, just keep moving forward.""
I know so many of you are persistent. Many of you are miserable, horrible people. You are persistent. You never give up. Sometimes I wish you’d give up, but you don’t." Trump would claim he had not prepared very much for the Kennedy Center Honors appearance.
He said, "I have a good memory, so I can remember things, which is very fortunate. But just, I wanted to just be myself. You have to be yourself."
