The 2019 Christmas special, which ended on the cliffhanger of Nessa proposing to Smithy, was the most-watched TV comedy show since Only Fools and Horses in 2002.
Ruth Jones as Nessa made an appearance during the Strictly final to read out the terms and conditions to viewers, whilst cracking a few iconic one liners.
Appearing on the BBC show, she was heckled by her iconic cathphrase “what’s occurring” as she bit back: “Oh you don’t think I hear that every day?!”
Viewers have already gone wild for the sneak peek, as one wrote on social media: “Think I was more excited to see the preview of Gavin and Stacey than anything else on strictly.”
Another shared: “The #strictly final was brilliant + then they give us Nessa + clips of Gavin+Stacey + made it more brilliant.“
“Ruth Jones as Nessa was always the funniest and best character on Gavin & Stacey,” said a third.
Another shared: “gavin and stacey christmas special trailer i am so up. actually crying #strictly.”
“”Having ar Nessa on for the T&Cs in the finale being just Nessa with the Gavin and Stacey Finale following was so special, I’m so excited yet upset Gavin and Stacey is sadly finishing :(” said another.
A BBC source previously revealed that Nessa would be making an appearance on the Strictly final, as they said: “The BBC have gone all out with their Strictly surprises this year — and having Ruth in as Nessa is the cherry on the cake.
“Last Saturday they had Wallace and Gromit read the Ts and Cs for voting, and Ruth will be doing a skit as Nessa this week.
“The BBC have worked really hard to get these off the ground and it’s a great cross-promotion for what will be their two biggest shows at Christmas.
“Strictly fans loved seeing Wallace and Gromit and the BBC think they’ll be thrilled when Nessa pops up on Saturday night.”
